Space Legend Series” concert will see King Sunny Ade, Onyeka Onwenu and Ebenezer Obey perform live on one stage, with Timi Dakolo as the opening act.
One
of Space Legend series’ headlining acts, Onyeka Onwenu was born on the
17th of May, 1961 to the family of one Nigeria’s foremost
educationist and politician, D. K. Onwenu. Fondly referred to as the
“Elegant Stallion”, Onyeka had her graduate and post-graduate degrees
from American universities.
Arguably, the greatest surviving
Nigeria’s songstress, Onyeka returned to Nigeria in 1980 for her
National Youth Service, after working in the United States with the UN
(United Nations).
She
had her youth corps service at the then Nigeria’s broadcast behemoth,
NTA (Nigeria Television Authority) where she honed her skill as a
broadcaster and left an indelible mark by writing and presenting the
documentary, “Nigeria: A Squandering of Riches”. The documentary won
international acclaim and remains a reference work. This tireless
singer, songwriter, actress and journalist would later serve as director
on the board of the NTA.
Onyeka’s influence and footprint transcend music and extend to politics, women emancipation, acting and broadcasting.
She
has enriched the Nigerian music landscape with songs like “One Love”,
“Ekwue”, “Iyogogo”, “Gbemileke”, “Dancing in the Sun”, to mention just a
few.
Come May 21st, this Legendary and celebrated songstress would roll back the years and serenade at Space Legend Series taking place Oriental hotel alongside veteran musicians – King Sunny Ade and Ebenezer Obey with opening of the show by the one called The Voice, Timi Dakolo.
